In radio control, the model is the cheap part. What determines whether a hobby continues past the first month is parts availability: whether a replacement arm, servo or gear set can be bought in six months, whether the manufacturer uses standard sizes, and whether the community has worked out the common failure points. A model with no spares is a disposable toy sold at a hobby price.

Shock & Servo is being built around spares. The plan is to record parts availability and pricing as a headline specification, to identify which components are standard sizes and which are proprietary, and to document the failure points that show up first so a buyer can stock for them. Drone coverage will include the registration and flight rules that apply by weight class, because those decide where a model can legally be flown.

Shock & Servo will be funded by affiliate commission when a reader buys through its links, paid by the retailer. A model with poor spares support will be marked down for it regardless of how well the initial purchase pays, because that is the single most useful thing the site can tell a buyer.
