About Cleat & Cone

Field sport equipment is a treadmill. Cleats are re-released annually with a new colorway and a marginally different upper, and families buy them again every season -- often for growing feet, which makes the cost worse. Very little published guidance separates a genuine change from a cosmetic one, or explains which surface a stud pattern is actually designed for.

Cleat & Cone is being built to slow the treadmill down. The plan is to say directly when a new model is unchanged from the one it replaces, to match stud patterns to surfaces rather than to marketing categories, and to cover durability over a season rather than impressions from a first outing. Youth sizing and growth allowance will be treated as a real problem with practical advice, not a footnote.

Cleat & Cone will earn affiliate commission when a reader buys through one of its links, paid by the retailer. Advising somebody that last season's model is identical and cheaper costs the site money, and it will still do it. No manufacturer will be able to buy a position or see a verdict early.
