This is the one automotive category where a bad recommendation can hurt somebody. A jack stand carries a rating, but the rating means nothing without knowing which standard it was tested against and whether the manufacturer had it verified by anyone other than themselves. Torque wrenches have the same problem in a quieter form: an out-of-calibration wrench gives a confident number that is wrong, and nothing on the tool tells you.

Jack & Torque is being built to take that seriously. The plan is to state which standard a load rating refers to, whether third-party verification exists, and what the recall history of a product line looks like. For torque wrenches the focus will be calibration -- what it costs, how often it is needed, and which tools can actually be recalibrated rather than replaced. Recall notices will be treated as headline news, not a footnote.

Jack & Torque will earn affiliate commission on purchases made through its links, paid by the retailer. Safety equipment is exactly where a commission-driven ranking would do the most damage, so the rule is absolute: load ratings, verification and recall history decide the recommendation, and nothing else does.
