About Hay & Hutch
Small-animal housing is sold to people who are often buying it for the first time, and a lot of what is on the market is too small. Flat-pack hutches and coops are frequently marketed for more animals than the published welfare guidance allows, using thin timber and mesh that predators get through. The buyer has no easy way to check, because the listing gives dimensions without any reference point for what those dimensions mean.
Hay & Hutch is being built to provide that reference point. The plan is to check every housing product against published minimum space guidance for the species it is sold for, to say plainly when a product is undersized for its stated capacity, and to look at the details that decide safety -- mesh gauge, latch design, weatherproofing and how quickly a unit can be cleaned. Feed and bedding will be covered on composition, not on packaging claims.
Hay & Hutch will be funded through affiliate commission on purchases made via its links, paid by the retailer at no extra cost. Animal welfare is not negotiable against commission: an undersized hutch will be described as undersized however well it sells.
