Pest control is full of products that do nothing. Ultrasonic repellers have repeatedly failed independent testing and are still sold in large numbers. At the other end, products that do work often work too broadly, killing pollinators along with the target. Between the two sits a buyer who wants a specific problem solved without turning their garden into a dead zone, and very little honest guidance.

Swat & Snap is being built to separate the two. The plan is to cover only categories where there is published evidence of efficacy, to name the target species rather than accept the word pest, and to flag collateral effects on bees and other beneficial insects on every page where they apply. Where the evidence says a product category does not work, the site will say that instead of recommending the least bad option within it.

Swat & Snap will make money through affiliate commission when a reader buys through one of its links, paid by the retailer. Because much of this category is ineffective, the site will regularly recommend buying nothing -- and that is deliberate.
